Traffic in my town

Every country has its own traffic system. Like in many countries of the world, people drive on the right side of the road in Russia, and road signs and markings in Russian roads are in full compliance with global standards. In all of the Russian Federation, there are national traffic regulations that were developed on the basis of the global principals of road safety. Russian traffic regulations comply with European regulations, and there are only slight differences, characteristic of national traffic regulations for each country.

In spite of traffic regulations countries can’t avoid traffic problems. Heavy traffic is one of the most serious problems that big cities have to deal with nowadays. If you live in a metropolis such as Moscow, the roads and highways are crowded during some hours of the day due to the important activities that people perform daily; for example going to work and school is top this rank. Traffic jam is a real headache for every driver of a big city. While hurrying to work or vacation traffic jams always get on the nerves and ruin psychological health. Moscow is one of the cities with the worst traffic jams in the world.

Small towns have traffic problems that differ from big cities.  In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski traffic jams form in the rush hours but they are not so big and intense like in Moscow.  Problems of our town are road accidents which occur because of carelessness. People don’t observe traffic regulations by speeding, pedestrians are careless. The government tried to solve this problem with cameras on the roads. I think it works but only in the places where cameras are fixed.

Another reason of road accidents is drunk driving. People are killed and injured every year because of it. To my mind drunk drivers should be punished as strictest as it possible. People have full faculties when they sober up and know right from wrong. They chose to drink again knowing they do not have any other way home other than to drive. There is no excuse for drinking and driving in today's world. I think a short time without a driver’s license is not enough. People still drive without a license. And, it´s another traffic problem. There are too much drivers without license on the roads of our town. A lot of people think it´s normal to drive with no license. I know a person who was driving without a driver's license. He said that he didn´t need it because he was a good driver. But recently he knocked down the man. After that he has sold his car and now he is not driving at all.

As for me I´ve learned to be a driver but I haven´t driver´s license yet. To tell the truth, I´m not in a hurry to get it. I know that it´s very comfortable to have my own car but all these traffic problems make me feel myself helpless on the road.
