The Ukrainian food is characterized with large number of components. For example the traditional Ukrainian food – borsch – contains 20 components. The peculiarities have the thermal processing of the products of the dishes. As a rule, there are used several types of thermal processing for the preparing of the food (frying, boiling, stewing, baking). The rules of food processing are strictly held in Ukrainian restaurants, to reach the best taste of the national dishes. The recipes of the Ukrainian cuisine include the number of different fruits and vegetables, as well as meat, poultry, fish, mushrooms and berries. The most common meat product is pork. The meat is present in large amount in first courses, among which the major one is borsch.

     Ukrainian food is one of the richest national cuisines. Its dishes are well known far away from Ukraine. And the Ukrainian recipes of the foods are very popular nowadays. Is anyone, who doesn’t know the Ukrainian Borsch?

     The Ukrainian food is characterized with large number of components. For example the traditional Ukrainian food – borsch – contains 20 components. The peculiarities have the thermal processing of the products of the dishes. As a rule, there are used several types of thermal processing for the preparing of the food (frying, boiling, stewing, baking). The rules of food processing are strictly held in Ukrainian restaurants, to reach the best taste of the national dishes. The recipes of the Ukrainian cuisine include the number of different fruits and vegetables, as well as meat, poultry, fish, mushrooms and berries. The most common meat product is pork. The meat is present in large amount in first courses, among which the major one is borsch.

     In Ukrainian food borsch occupies the first place, but not the single one. The popular dishes are also cereals: millet, buckwheat, pumpkin etc. The rather important place in recipes of Ukrainian food belongs to floury foods: curds, dumplings, grechaniki, cottage cheese patty, potaptsy, pancakes, verguny, mandryky, puchkenyky and others. The rich assortment of egg dishes (fried eggs with “salo” (fat) and sausage etc).

     Among the traditional sweet foods the most popular are uswars (stewed fruits) and jellied fruits. To prepare sweet dishes are used plums, apples, pears, apricots, cherries, red currants, strawberries, wild strawberries, raspberries, honey, nuts. Ukrainian cuisine was always famous for the big number of foods with fruits and berries, raised on the Ukrainian lands.

     The very tasteful are dishes, which stewed in ceramic pots: roast meat, curds with sour cream, stewed cabbage, potatoes with meat and prunes.Ukrainian cuisine has dozens thousands of food recipes, which are characterized with plane food cooking and high taste qualities. The modern national culinary art preserved and enriched the old good traditions.

 

 

 

 

 

Here are some popular dishes:

  • Borsch is a famous ukrainian soup. It is almost always made with a broth made of beets, potatoes, carrots, spinach and meat. It may be eaten as a meal in itself, but is usually eaten as an appetizer with bread.

 

  • Zelenyj (Green) Borsch: broth based soup with sorrel and various vegetables, served with chopped hard boiled egg and sour cream.

 

  • Varenyky are a kind of stuffed dumpling. Varenyky come with a wide variety of either savory (potatoes, mushrooms, cabbage, sauerkraut, salty white cheese, fish, meat, liver) or sweet (cherry, strawberry, bilberry, raspberry, fresh white cheese) fillings.

 

  • Salo is a traditional Ukrainian food: cured slabs of fatback, with or without skin. In post-soviet humor, salo is a stereotypical attribute of Ukrainian culture, analogous to vodka for Russians.

 

  • Halushky are a traditional variety of thick, soft noodles or dumplings cooked in Ukraine and other Central Europe states.

 

  • Holubtsi (stuffed cabbage) is a dish consisting of cooked cabbage leaves wrapped around a variety of fillings.

 

  • Holodec is an ukrainian aspic.

 

  • Chicken Kyiv (kotleta po-kyivsky) is a popular dish of boneless chicken breast pounded and rolled around cold garlic butter with herbs, then breaded and either fried or baked. The dish has traditionally been considered Ukrainian in origin and the name of it comes from the name of the capital of Ukraine, Kiev.

 

 

 

 

 

Ukraine has a lot of different festivals. Some of them are interesting, attractive, dynamic, and people all over the world visit Ukraine to participate in them.

Very interesting festival which is celebrated in Sevastopol called: «Sevastopol Brides Festival»

June 7, 2011 in Sevastopol, the Festival of Brides IV. This year the festival was held behind closed doors at the hotel "Apartments Hersonissos."The celebration was attended by 20 women from Sevastopol, Simferopol and Yalta. Some participants are married, some girls still tried for the first time the bride and wedding dress.In conjunction with the atmosphere of the place for a photo shoot stylists have picked up four exquisite way for brides: "Greek", "retro", "Caps" and "Flowers."

Odessa has big variety of celebrations like: «2 Days and 2 Nights of New Music: not a boring sound», «Night of Museums», «City’s birthday».

«2 Days and 2 Nights of New Music: not a boring sound»:

The "2 Days and 2 Nights of New Music" International Festival of Modern Avant-garde Art traditionally takes place in Odessa in the middle of April. A work of modern art in itself, it is one of the largest festivals of its kind in Europe.

«Night of Museums»:

Home Bleschunova, is one of the few Ukrainian museums and the only one in Odessa that in 2005, takes part in European action "Spring of Museums". Traditionally, it takes place in the International Museum Day (May 18) or in the next few days. This year "Spring of Museums" will come to Odessa on May 15. As part of the action another event takes place, - "Night of Museums".

«City’s birthday»:

Like the "Humorina" festival, the city's birthday is a unique Odessa holiday. Odessa Time began in 1794 when Catherine the Great signed an edict for the establishment of our city and so "Odessa New Year" - the City's Day - is celebrated on the 2 nd of September.

 

 

 

 

 

Our city Ternopil has got very interesting festival called «Folk and Kutia Festival»:

A folk festival will be held January 15-16, 2011 in the Lemkivska Village open-air museum of the Monastyrskyj region of the Ternopil Oblast.

Traditionally a Ukrainian summer festival of Lemko culture Bells of Lemkivshchyna is held here.

According to the Ternopil Oblast State Administration, members and guests will have the opportunity to participate in the Christmas Lemko ceremonies, sing carols with folk collectives from Ternopil and its neighboring areas, see the ceremonies of Malanka, and ride in a horse-drawn sleigh.

Another highlight of the holiday will be the festival of kutia (sweet grain pudding). Participants of the festival will be offered to taste kutia made in different Lemko regions.
