The Job Interview

A job interview is your opportunity to present your talents to a prospective employer. During the interview, an employer judges your qualifications, appearance, and general fitness for the job opening. It is your opportunity to convince the employer that you can make a real contribution.

Equally important, the interview gives you a chance to evaluate the job, the employer, and the company. The interview helps you decide if the job meets your career needs and interests and whether the employer is the kind you want to work for.

Before each interview, though, you should act as if the job you are applying for is the one you want – because it may be. To present your qualifications most  advantageously, you have to prepare. You should have the needed papers ready and the necessary information about yourself memorized. And you should know how to act at the interview to make it an opportunity to “sell” your skills.

Собеседование

Собеседование – это возможность представить ваши таланты предполагаемому работодателю. Во время интервью  работодатель оценивает вашу квалификацию, внешность и общее соответствие вакансии. Это ваш шанс убедить работодателя, что вы можете внести существенный вклад.

Также важно, что собеседование дает вам шанс оценить работу, работодателя и компанию. Собеседование помогает вам решить, соответствует ли данная работа вашим карьерным требованиям и интересам и хотите ли вы работать на данного работодателя.

Однако, перед любым собеседованием, вы должны вести себя так, как будто работа, на которую вы претендуете – это то, что вы хотите, потому, что это может быть именно так. Чтобы представить свою квалификацию наиболее выигрышно, вам нужно подготовиться. Вам нужно подготовить необходимые документы и запомнить необходимую информацию про себя. И вы должны знать, как вести себя на собеседовании, чтобы это было возможностью «продать» ваши навыки.

To present your qualifications most advantageously, you have to prepare. You should have the needed papers ready and the necessary information about yourself memorized.

4. Why should you know to act at the interview?

You should know how to act at the interview to make it an opportunity to “sell” your skills.

III. Переведите  предложения на русский язык.

a)

1. Why don’t you go to Mr. Brown for advice? He would tell you what to do, he would help you to make the necessary arrangements.

Почему бы вам не пойти к мистеру Брауну за советом. Он бы рассказал вам, что делать, он бы помог сделать необходимые приготовления.

2. I’d like to make friends with Nick. It would be nice of you.

Я бы хотел подружиться с Ником. Это было бы мило с твоей стороны.

3. Ann is an excellent storyteller. It would be wonderful to have her in our drama group.

Анн – отличный рассказчик. Было бы чудесно, если бы она участвовала в нашем драматическом кружке.

b)

1. Why didn’t you come to our place yesterday? You would have enjoyed hearing Peter tell us about his trip.

Почему ты не пришел к нам вчера? Тебе бы понравилось, как Питер рассказывал о своей поездке.

2. I’m sorry he wasn’t at the office at the time. He would have attended to the matter immediately.

Мне жаль, что его не было в офисе в то время. Он бы занялся этим делом сразу же.

It was very wise of you to leave a message for him. There would have been no point in waiting for him.

Было очень мудро с твоей стороны оставить ему сообщение. Не было бы никакого смысла ждать его.

c)

1. I  would  have told you everything frankly, but you were away on business, the boy said to his uncle.

Я бы честно тебе все рассказал, но ты уехал в командировку, сказал мальчик своему дяде.

2. Come to my place this afternoon. The weather is lovely. We could go for a walk. You could enjoy having a walk in the forest, I am sure.

Приходи ко мне днем. Погода чудесная. Мы могли бы прогуляться. Тебе бы понравилось гулять по лесу, я уверен.

3. Peter is a good speaker. He would have kept to the subject, but on this occasion he was interrupted all the time and it made his speech too long as a result.

Питер – хороший оратор. Он бы придерживался темы, но в этот раз его все время прерывали, и в результате, его речь была слишком длинной.

4. The boy has been very active. It would only be just to praise him.

Мальчик был очень активным. Это было бы только для того, чтобы похвалить его.

5. “Can you wait a bit longer?” Jack asked the manager. “I know my friend would be interested in getting the job”

IV. Раскройте скобки и поставьте глагол в правильную форму Subjunctive I (сослагательного I), переведите предложения на русский язык.

1. “Why don’t you leave him alone?” the mother asked the son. “He feels rather upset after what’s happened, and a few friendly words would cheer him up”.

«Почему бы тебе не оставить его в покое?» спросила мама сына. «Он очень расстроен после того, что случилось и несколько добрых слов его бы подбодрили»

2. It’s a pity John wasn’t there. He would have convinced you in no time.

3. “I’m looking forward to getting the results of the experiment”, said the scientist. “It would be very useful to compare them with the figures we’ve got now.”

«Я с нетерпением жду результатов эксперимента», сказал ученый. «Было бы очень полезно сравнить их с цифрами, которые у нас есть сейчас»

4. Why didn’t you tell me you were cold? I would have shut the window long ago.

Почему ты мне не сказал, что тебе холодно? Я бы давно закрыл окно.

5. I didn’t know you needed those figures. I would have looked them up when I was in the reading room.

Я не знал, что тебе нужны эти цифры. Я бы посмотрел их, когда был в читальном зале.

6. Your son’s getting very shy. It would be a good idea to send him to a camp for the summer. It would do him a lot of good.

Твой сын становится очень робким. Хорошей идеей было бы послать его в лагерь на лето. Это бы принесло ему много пользы.

7. I am glad I left before five. The traffic there is usually very heavy by five. It would have held me up.

Я рад, что уехал до пяти. Дорожное движение там обычно очень загруженное к пяти часам. Это бы меня задержало.

8. Why do you want to stay with your relatives? I would prefer spending a holiday at the seaside.

9. “The children have already been out of sight for half an hour,” said the man. “I’m afraid it would be impossible for you to reach them now.

V. Объясните, что предлагает наш воображаемый собеседник, используя   сослагательное наклонение I, слова to suggest, to order, to recommend, necessary, important, desirable и т.д и предлагаемые модели.

Model: “Why don’t the two of your fly to New York”. – He says it is necessary that we should fly to New York. “ She is free tonight. She can go to see them off instead off Ann.” – It is suggested that she should see them off instead of Ann.
